Mandel opens office in Finland – 10 reasons why we do so!

Yes – this is great news for us! Even when delivering press releases and brand messages from our clients to Finland since 8 years, we feel we are still at the beginning to get to know this amazingly different country.

From the beginning of this year 2014, Jussi Ovaskainen represents our company and team from his desk in Helsinki, the majestic capital.

Jussi Ovaskainen

We know Jussi very well since a long time. As chief editor of the Finnish ski magazine Skimbaaja, executive producer at Radio Nova, photographer, skier and media representative for destinations he has broad experience and a thorough contact base in his home country.

10 reasons for Mandel to open office in Finland:

  1. Jussi is comfortably completing our team with his humble and outgoing personality.
  2. We love this interesting country. You can find many google top-10-lists like this one: www.travelingeast.com/europe/finland/ten-interesting-facts-about-finland
  3. Very interesting market. Various key note speakers at recent business symposiums mentioned Finland as the most underestimated market in Europe.
  4. True outdoor nation. The largest part of the Finnish population lives in the forest or at the lakes.
  5. Growth potential especially in the outdoor, sports and lifestyle segment. Very high level of knowledge and understanding of performance and fashion.
  6. Pleasure to do business with Finns. It is straightforward, fair and focused on a good promising result.
  7. Wilderness. The area for outdoor and nature sports is immensely large and beautiful.
  8. Weather. This could be anything between –40 and +30 degrees. All is possible in this northernmost corner of Europe.
  9. We believe we can help brands and companies with our communication services and there is a need and therefore possibilities for us.
  10. Just to keep our promise to come up with 10 reasons. Well all Finland facts, language, sauna, blockhouse, fresh air and creativity are exciting to us.

Mandel will work as PR agency for brands in sports, outdoor and lifestyle. The direct contact with journalists, bloggers and opinion leaders will be our daily job.

German-Swedish semi-Final!

UEFA Women’s EURO championship 2013 that is taking place in Sweden is in full swing and the final is getting closer. Before the last game on Sunday, Sweden and Germany are meeting for the semi-final in the sold-out Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg tonight. The match is expected to be an exciting game with two great teams: Germany won this competition five times in a row and barely lost a Women’s EURO for years but Sweden got a really precarious start in this year’s championship. German coach Silvia Neid said: “It is obvious that Sweden is the favorite. They are the host nation with the support of the home crowd. They said before the tournament that they wanted to win it. And they have world-class players in every position”.

So far the championship had a summer of success with a really good atmosphere, high class football and many sold out games.
For those who don’t have a ticket to watch tonight’s game live: Where do you watch it and who are you cheering for?

Happy faces after 3350 kilometers of running and paddling!

Kramkalas (1)

“Miklagård to Stadsgård” – is Kristina Palténs and Carina Boréns adventure from Istanbul to Stockholm called. It took them 3000 kilometres of running and 350 kilometres of paddling. The team was among others sponsored by PrimaLoft och Odlo and arrived back in Stockholm last Saturday July 13th. Their adventure started end of March in Istanbul. First they crossed Turkey in 8 days, having a tent and provisions in a buggy. They continued their run through Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia before they arrived in Åbo, Finland after 3 months. By then they already ran 3000 kilometres – this is about a marathon per day! The last bit to Sweden they went by kayak; first through open sea, then through Stockholm’s archipelago. Around noon July 13th they finally arrived at Stockholm’s city hall. About 40 friends, relatives and journalists waited there to welcome the adventurers. “This is totally fantastic. Amazing”, said Carina as she just climbed out of the kayak.

Yesterday, Matthias Aßmann met them back in the city for coffee and hugs. We are proud of Kristina and Carina and wish them all the best!

Hej Friends, glad Midsommar to all of you!

Tomorrow is Midsommarafton and this is a really unique day in Sweden. Traditionally people are going out to their summerplaces, picking flowers, eating herring, fresh potatoes, Swedish strawberries and dancing around the midsommarpole.

Where do you celebrate your Midsommar? We wish you a relaxed day among friends and family!

Skolavslutning

20130612_081621

This morning we´ve been surprised by live-music appearing from the street. From our office at Wallingatan in Stockholm we had a perfect view to one Skolavslutning. In a parade with a brass band both parents and children went to a church around the corner. Today many schools in Stockholm have Skolavslutning. This is a ceremony at the end of the semester in schools, aimed to celebrate the last day of school. In Sweden this is an important day before 10 weeks of summer vacation begins. There is even something similar before Christmas vacations. Skolavslutning is celebrated in a church or at the schoolyard.
So have a nice Skolavslutning-day!

Hello friends,

my name is Sophia and I am doing an internship for the next two month at Mandel. I am from Germany but already living in Stockholm since a few months. At home I am studying Skandinavistik which is about langue and culture in Scandinavia and this makes me speaking Swedish. In fact I already started learning a bit Swedish in school when we had an exchange with Sweden and my fascination for language and people began. After school I wanted to go on with Swedish and found the Skandinavistik-studies. During the last years I travelled several times to Sweden, especially Stockholm and did a university exchange in Örebro for half a year. This time I came to Sweden to take a look at the working life and collect ideas what to do after my studies. So I am very excited about the next months at Mandel and summer in this beautiful city!

See you!

/Sophia
